It’s happening: WHO RIDES THE WORLD is running!
This month RISER is dedicating their support to women motorcyclists around the globe! With our initiative WHO RIDES THE WORLD we will be highlighting female riders, female clubs, female festivals and other great initiatives by women who all share passion for motorcycles. But we also want to involve YOU: we want the whole community to participate and you will have the chance to WIN! (read here for more info). Make sure to stay tuned over the course of the next weeks! Today we prepare for the International Female Ride Day and meet with the SAUDI FEMALE RIDERS!
In case you have forgotten, tomorrow, on the 4th of May is the International Female Ride Day!
And we hope you are ready to take your bike for a ride! It will be the 13th time it takes place, as it has been held annually on every first Saturday of May since 2007. The International Female Ride Day was created by Vicky Grey, founder and director of Motoress, to highlight the many women out there active in the sport and to inspire other women who have not joined the fun yet!
For this occasion, RISER wants to take the opportunity to highlight a very important female group, namely the first official female motorcycle group in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Women Riders! We are extremely happy that they are onboard with us for our female riders movement, Who Rides The World!
Not even a year has passed since Saudi Arabia lifted their ban on women driving. The decade old ban was officially ended on June 24th 2018 and only a few hours went by before women were already behind the wheel. A long desired dream for many had finally become a reality. Many women had prepared their drivers licence already before as the change was announced some months earlier. Some however where busy with getting their motorcycle licence ready to be able to take the road by two wheels instead of four. RISER got in contact with Zarah from Saudi Arabia, a biomedical engineer and member of Saudi Women Riders. She started to learn how to ride a motorcycle in the summer of 2018. Since then she has gathered with other female riders in Saudi Arabia whom she got in contact with through social media. They are a support system for each other and ride together in a group as well as regularly enjoying meals and drinks together. Their instagram profile with pictures of the group and more was created on the same day as the ban was lifted, so clearly there was no waiting around.
Zarah’s life motto is pretty simple. “Never stay still. You are not a tree.” That is fitting for a woman flying on the road. When we asked her what she would like all women to know Zarah replied: “Gender shouldn’t stop you from achieving anything. Know yourself and that you are who will empower yourself and no one else. Nothing will be able to stop you then!”
