A couple of days ago, we travelled from Carinthia to Vienna and tried to avoid driving on the motorways. And we did. Successfully. But we underestimated the time it took.
We started in a small town called Feldkirchen and drove via the Turracher Höhe (Skiing resort, 1785m) through Murau to Scheifling and Judenburg. We then took the motorway for a couple of kilometers to then reach the well known Eisenstraße and Erzberg where the famous Red Bull Erzberg Rodeo takes place every year.
We then drove via Wildalpen and Weichselboden to Mariazell. A Reservoir, nice tunnels and lots of curves included. After a short break at Terz, we headed forward towards Kalte Kuchl and came across a high plateau with stunning landscapes. Definitely worth a ride!
From Kalte Kuchl we rode through some hills and curves to Pernitz and Wiener Neustadt where we took the motorway again for the last 38 kilometers. Arising darkness made this necessary.
Conclusion: Leave the known roads to discover new ones. It may take more time but it’s definitely worth a try.
